HOW TO PICK THE KEEPER!
Unfortunately there is no formula for picking the super star puppy. There are however some things you can to do ensure you increase your chances. Getting as much information from the breeder about the parents is important.
How are the parents used and is it similar to your operation?
Are there any health concerns within the breed and are the parents tested?
What is the temperament of the parents?
Is this a first time cross? If the cross has been made before, what were the pups like?
Ask for video, or better yet go and what the parents work in person.
Do you like the way the parents work?
Ask the breeder how the parents take to training? Are they Biddable?
Does the breeder provide any guarantees of health or desire to work?
Does the breeder provide any support if you have issues or concerns with the puppy?
If you have gone through these questions and are able to confidently answer them, that litter may be a good fit for you. Now, all that is left is to see what puppy speaks to you. The more you like the pup, the more time you will spend with it, and the better the chance it will have at being successful. It is also important to remember not every puppy is going to fit your needs. Train the dog you have in front of you, not the dog you think you want.
